by Phillip Bellury

With advocacy for the African American Community as his cornerstone, George G. Andrews has built a solid professional career in Atlanta and the state of Georgia as a People’s Banker. George Andrews was educated at Booker T. Washington High School and Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where he received both a meaningful education in academics and the sensitivity to serve his people. After graduation from Morehouse, he entered the world of business through the Trust Company Bank’s management training program. Most of his tenure with Trust Company Bank was in branch management and commercial lending. It was during this period that he became aware of the fact that African American business owners sometimes needed special attention to launch their businesses and the statusquo banking establishment was not the place for this kind of service. It was a challenge that George Andrews had found his niche and began to dream. He left Trust Company Bank in early 1983 to join the National Bank of Georgia as an area branch manager. In 1984 he graduated from the School of Banking at Louisiana State University of New Orleans. Two years later he rejoined Trust Company Bank and remained there until his dream of a the African American Community became his daily aspiration. In 1994, Capitol City Bank & Trust Company began operation in Atlanta Georgia.

Mr. Andrews is strongly committed to community involvement, serving on several Boards of Directors including the Urban Residential Development Corporation, the Urban Ministerial Alliance, the Atlanta Metropolitan College Foundation, the City of Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority and formerly the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. He was appointed by Governor Roy Barnes to serve on the Private Colleges and Universities Authority Board, secretary of the Board of Directors for the Independent Community Bankers of America and former Chair of the Westside District Boy Scouts of America. He is actively involved with the Interdenominational Theological Center, 100 Black Men of Atlanta and Community Bankers Association. Mr. Andrews is married to the former Janice Smith and they have two daughters, one son, three granddaughters and one grandson.
