ATLANTA MAYOR SHIRLEY FRANKLIN

Mayor Shirley Franklin is the 58th Mayor of the City of Atlanta. Mayor Franklin made
history when she became the first female mayor of Atlanta, Georgia. Mayor Shirley Franklin is working hard to make Atlanta a nurturing place for our children, a relaxing place for our visitors and a wonderful place for our residents to call home.

Since her inauguration in 2002, Mayor Franklin has worked to build a “Best in Class” managed city by strengthening existing frameworks, implementing progressive changes and making the tough decisions necessary to improve Atlanta. Those decisions have included:

• Hosting regular “Mayor’s Night In” meetings with employees and residents;
• Creating Atlanta Women’s Agenda Advisory Council to address how the City can better serve women;
• Creating the Clean Water Advisory Panel to provide objective, expert advice for improving the City’s storm and wastewater systems; and
• Implementing other commissions and taskforces including the Commission on Homelessness, Affordable Housing, Living Wage and Ethics Task Force.

The Mayor’s tough decisions have resulted in a balanced budget for three consecutive years.
